GAK9NC - Advanced K9 Training in North Carolina

Most training stops at obedience. We start where that ends.

Who We Are

GAK9NC is a working dog program built for handlers who want more than basic training. Operating through Summit Kennels, we develop K9 teams for both serious civilian handlers and professional operators who need real-world performance. Whether you are advancing beyond obedience or preparing for operational deployment, the training is built to strengthen the dog team's bond and its effectiveness under pressure.

Our Mission

To bridge the gap between basic obedience and real-world capability, by providing structured, advanced training for civilian and professional K9 teams alike.

When it comes to training, the sky isn't the limit if there are footprints on the moon.

Two Paths. One Standard.

Advanced Civilian Development

For handlers who already have a foundation and want to push further. This is for the person who wants a dog that performs, not just one that behaves.

Professional & Operational Training

Built for law enforcement, military and search-and-rescue teams who need capability that holds up when it counts. Training is conducted with operational realism, because performance matters when it is not a drill.

Leadership

GAK9NC is led by Ishman Davis, an experienced dog trainer with Special Forces and the conventional USMC. His background includes military working dog operations and high-level mission support, selection into the MARSOC K9 pipeline, training foreign K9 teams in operational environments, leadership of specialized K9 sections overseas, and certifications across tracking, detection and apprehension.

This program is built from experience, not guesswork.

Our Training Philosophy

We train for clarity, control and performance under pressure. Every repetition has a purpose and every scenario builds capability.

Real-world application over staged repetition

Progressive Problem-Solving for Both Dog and Handler
Environmental Exposure and Controlled Stress Conditioning
Clear Communication and Genuine Trust Inside the Team

Why GAK9NC

Whether you are a civilian pushing your dog to the next level or a professional preparing for real deployments, GAK9NC delivers training that translates outside the training field. Anyone can build a dog that looks impressive in a controlled yard. The test is what happens when the environment stops cooperating.

Read the dog. Find the threat. Win the hunt.

Working with Us

Elite Skills programs are scoped individually. Team size, current capability, timeline and certification requirements all change what the training looks like, so pricing and structure are quoted after a conversation rather than listed on a page. Agency and unit enquiries are welcome.

What a Training Block Looks Like

Every engagement starts with an assessment of the dog and the handler, separately, because they are two different problems. From there we scope the work: what capability is needed, what the certification standard is, what the timeline allows, and honestly whether the dog in front of us can get there.

Training is progressive and problem-based. We build the skill in a clean environment, then break it on purpose in a dirty one, then rebuild it, because a capability that has never failed in training will fail on deployment. Handlers are coached throughout on reading the dog, because the best-trained dog in the world is useless to a handler who cannot tell a change of behavior from a distraction.

Blocks can run as intensive multi-day sessions, as recurring maintenance training for an existing unit, or as a longer development program for a green dog and handler pairing.

FAQ

01 Do I need an experienced dog to start?

No, but you need the right dog. Drive, nerve and hunt matter far more than existing skills. Part of the assessment is telling you honestly whether the dog you have is suited to the work you want, before you invest a year into finding out the hard way.

We introduce detection concepts and scent work to advanced civilian handlers. Operational detection training, narcotics, explosives, specialty odors, is scoped for professional teams.

Yes. Tell us the standard you are certifying to and we will build toward it. Our trainers hold certifications across tracking, detection and apprehension, including multiple trainer-level courses.

Apprehension and controlled aggression development is scoped for professional and operational teams. Civilian requests are evaluated individually and are not something we take on casually.

Individually. Team size, current capability, timeline and certification requirements change the work too much for a list price, so we quote after a conversation.

For agency and unit work, yes, that is often the more useful option, since training in your operational environment beats training in ours. Discuss it at the enquiry stage.
